It seems, on the face of it, an intriguing career move: from secondary headteacher to depute principal of Scotland's only adult residential college. But given Marian Docherty's diverse career to date, including spells as a senior lecturer in FE, a national development officer and an HMI, her recent appointment to Newbattle Abbey College begins to looks more natural. As head of St David's High in Dalkeith until August this year, Mrs Docherty already had strong links with the college, including helping to set up an ESOL Family Learning Partnership for Polish pupils and parents at St David's. And with HMI in the 1990s, she worked alongside the current principal of the college, Ann Southwood. https://www.tes.com/news/ceilidh-principle-you-must-take-part |
Roddy started his career in education as a lecturer at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (GCNS) in 1998, following a first career in the shipping industry. He went on to senior roles at GCNS, before holding national positions as Head of Centre for Leaning Effectiveness at the Scottish Further Education Unit, Associate Director at Scotland’s Colleges and as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Education. Prior to his appointment as Principal at Newbattle, Roddy was Depute Principal at Inverness College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), a post he had held for the previous eight years.
